Here at Sparta Church of the Nazarene, our mission is to build personal relationships with others and thereby make disciples of Christ.

Each Sunday there are two

Morning Worship Services --

9:15 and 10:45 am

Update from Church Staff & Board - June

The Board met in June to review some decisions that were made earlier this spring. We have decided to continue to hold two services for the time being. We have decided to continue to suspend Sunday School and Children’s Church but plan to hold teens and children’s activities either off-site or outside at the Church. Also, for the time being, and until further notice, funeral potlucks and wedding receptions will be handled very differently, on a case-by-case basis. Lastly, the August 9 church picnic will still be held at 5 p.m. Please plan on bringing your own food and supplies. We will meet at the Wahlfield Park pavilion (6811 Alpine Avenue, NW, Comstock Park), where we can safely gather and eat together. Although we are limited in how we gather, we praise God we can still do so for fellowship!

In other news, Pastor Chad is now ‘officially’ full time! We are very thankful for his talent each Sunday as he leads us in worship. Something you may not be aware of is his competent support with the technology side of things here at the Church. With the ever-changing and ever-increasing way computers are used nowadays, Chad has become indispensable. We are certainly blessed with his and Libby’s humble service in their ministries!

Please be in prayer as we continue in this pastoral transition. We look forward to all the exciting ways God is growing us! Praying for you, Your Sparta Naz Staff

Onsite Service Precautions

To keep services as a more manageable size, we will be having two separate services – one at 9:15 a.m. and one at 10:45 a.m. Between those two services, a team of people will be sanitizing the sanctuary, doors, and restrooms. We will be asking people to take their conversations outside immediately following the 9:15 a.m. service to allow for the volunteers to sanitize more efficiently.

Following are guidelines to keep in mind when returning to worship:

  • Please use common sense when returning to church; if you are sick, please stay home.
  • Please park in the back parking lot and use the entrance under the carport.
  • Please use the sanitizer provided at the various sanitizing stations.
  • Please sit in the pews as marked, leaving every other pew empty.
  • Please keep a distance of six feet or more between people of different households.
  • There will be no handouts.
  • There will be no pew bibles, hymnals, pencils, etc. available.
  • The church library will be closed temporarily.
  • The main restrooms in the hallway are available for use.
  • If needed, please bring your own water as the drinking fountain won’t be available.
  • Please do not go in areas of the church cordoned off by screen flex portable walls.

Our online streaming of the service through Facebook Live will continue and is a permanent part of our church services. The leadership will be evaluating these changes every couple of weeks, so be watching for changes.

If you do not feel comfortable returning at this time, we understand and support your decision. We will be doing everything we can to make those returning feel comfortable. Please be kind and respectful to others and patient with your leadership as we move through this ever-changing situation. In a time that has been divisive and difficult, let us be a safe place of unity that is filled with the love of Christ.
